New Sea Angler reported 32 limits of rockfish adding 6 lings to 16 pounds and full limits of Dungeness crabs.
Sea Angler Captain Rick Powers said there is some real favorable salmon sign off Elephant Rock and north off the River but for the boats trying the main ingredient is missing.
Rick plans on targeting rockfish, lings and crabs on his next few trips but will have the salmon gear at hand if anything develops. I would suggest private boaters bring at least a few pots to soak.
The crab season closes at the end of the month. The rockfish and late season crab action remains outstanding while the salmon bite continues to be slow.
On Friday 6-12 Rick on the New Sea Angler ran south to Point Reyes and reported 43 limits of mostly coppers and browns with just a few schoolfish in the rice sacks hanging along the rails. They added 14 lings to 12 pounds to their fish count before pulling through the crab gear. They pulled just 9 pots for 43 limits (6 crabs per angler) of crabs. Rick says the crabs are a mix of big jumbos some that have recently molted and most others that are hard and full meat crabs to 3 pounds. This is incredible late season crab action.
Private boaters headed this way should consider packing along a few pots and soaking gear while they are chasing salmon and rockfish. On the salmon front very few boats have been venturing out. Rick said he found some favorable feed conditions south of Elephant Rock that he plans on working over tomorrow.
Otherwise the top salmon score we have heard of this past week was one six-pack with three salmon landed last weekend. The weather has been flat and foggy with light winds less than 5 knots over a small 4 foot swell.
Rick is full on Saturday and has lots of space open on Sunday.
Captain Rick Powers of Bodega Bay Sport Fishing took a combination trip on Tuesday 6-9, and they trolled up 7 salmon to 16 pounds for 10 anglers along with 10 limits of rockfish of mostly coppers, browns, and a few vermilions.
They pulled the crab pots for limits of Dungeness to 2.5 pounds, and there was even a bonus 8-pound California halibut in the fish box. Captain Rick Powers of Bodega Bay Sport Fishing reported continued phenomenal rockfishing with 17 limits of bottom dwelling rockfish on Sunday 6-7 including 40 vermilions, 30 coppers, browns, and a few yellows in the mix along with 5 lings to 17 pounds.
They also pulled the pots for 17 limits of Dungeness crab from 5 pots. Rick has pulled in 1200 Dungeness crab in the last 10 trips, and he expects to continue to find limits for the rest of the season until June 30th.
Saturdayís trip produced another huge score with 44 limits of mostly red rockfish along with 20 lings to 18 pounds and 44 limits (thatís 264 Dungeness crab). They put in 19 limits of rockfish, 17 ling cod to 14 pounds, and limits of crab on Friday, even trolling for salmon for a few hours, only to release 3 silvers.
On the salmon front the bite has been very slow. While we were in Alaska this past week we heard of one six pack that landed three fish on Saturday 6-6 other than that it has either been windy or VERY slow on the salmon front. Private boaters are seeing nones with the occasional one with many switching over to rockfish for easy limits reported by many around Fort Ross.
